Test Questions

In this section, we'll cover typical test questions for parabolas and quadratic equations. Hunt your way through these and you'll find great help for your upcoming test.

Find roots of y=0.5x^2 + 3.5x +6

Factor     x^2 - 20x +75

Factor completely

-4x^2 + 68x -120

Write the equation of the given parabola.

A rectangle has dimensions x+10 and 5x-4. If the area of the rectangle is 72 cm^2, what is the value of x, to the nearest 10th?

Alex rides a dirt bike off a ramp. His path is modeled by h(d) = -3.9d^2 +13.1d +8.7, where d is horizontal distance and h is height, both in meters. How far does he travel before he lands?

The curve of a cable on a suspension bridge can be modeled by h=0.0025(d-100)^2 -25. The points where the cables attaches the supporting towers are where h=0. How far apart are the towers?

Find roots of y=-6.1x^2 -97.6x -390.4

Turn this into vertex form:

       4x^2 +16x +11 =0

How many real roots does this equation have ... y = -30.6 x^2 +30.7x -39.8.

Find the x-intercepts for y = 3x^2 -10x +6. Express answer in exact values.

A rectangle, 4 cm longer than it is wide, has a diagonal 20 cm long. What are the dimension of the rectangle?

Water spraying from a fountain follows a path h(d) = -2/3d^2 +4d, where h is height above foundation and d is horizontal distance from jet. How far does the water travel horizontally?

For a science experiment, students launch a rocket. It's path is given my h(d) =-5d^2+24d+30, where h is the height and d is horizontal distance from launch pad. How far away, horizontally, does the rocket land?
